Learn how to perform the Limits of Stability test (LoS) using the Virtualis MotionVR. The same steps can be followed to perform LoS on the Virtualis StaticVR.
This guide focuses on the essential steps for conducting the test and navigating the software.
In this video, you will learn:
This is how to perform the Limits of Stability (LoS) test on the Virtualis MotionVR. The Limits of Stability test can also be performed with the StaticVR force plates, following the same steps as shown in this video.
Instruct the patient that their goal for the test is to keep their feet in place while leaning towards the target on the screen, and then return their weight to the center when each trial ends.
Have the patient remove their shoes for a standardized somatosensory input. Center the patient's feet on the platform. The front edge of the medial malleolus of each foot should be directly centered on the horizontal line of the force plate. The outer edge of the foot should be aligned with the anteroposterior lines.
When the feet are positioned correctly, assist the patient in putting on the headset, then close and lock the safety ring. Next, select settings in the software. We recommend keeping the default settings with auto validation. You are now ready to start the session and begin the assessment.
With default settings, the first target will be directly forward, with each consecutive target positioned 45 degrees in the clockwise direction. Use the screen to observe real time feedback on the patient's performance.
If a patient loses their balance or moves their feet from the correct position, you can press the quit button at the bottom of the screen and the trial will end.
The patient will continue to move to targets in the clockwise direction when prompted in the VR headset or on the screen. The patient will return their weight to the center between targets.
Once the assessment is complete, open the safety ring and assist the patient with removing the headset and stepping off the platform. Press the results button in the software to view the assessment results.
