Overview

Objective vestibular assessment provides a valuable insight into the physiological function of the vestibular system. However, vestibular abnormalities will often have vastly different functional impacts upon individuals, highlighting the need for more function-focused vestibular test approach. Join us in this eWorkshop to explore how you can implement and optimize functional balance assessments in your clinics and use this information to bridge the gap between vestibular diagnostics and rehabilitation.

Learning objectives:

  • Describe methods to assess the Vestibular Ocular Reflex, Gaze Stability and functional balance/postural control.
  • Explain how functional vestibular assessment contributes to the successful management of patient's with vestibular disorders.
  • Analyse vestibular function test results and review the way in which functional balance assessment and virtual reality contributes to comprehensive balance assessment.



Course Presenter:

Michael East

Michael is an Audiologist and Clinical Scientist from the UK with many years of experience working in senior clinical audiology positions within the National Health Service, specialising in both pediatrics and vestibular assessment/rehabilitation. He holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the University of Southampton and Aston University respectively and completed the UK’s National School of Healthcare Science “Scientist Training Programme”; leading to his registration as a Clinical Scientist. Michael joined the Interacoustics Academy team in 2024 to pursue his interest in supporting the learning and development of clinicians around the world and contributing to scientific and clinical advancements within the field of audiology.
